Participants purchase memberships and recycled products to generate net proceeds that are then directed to a specific location-based OCI Waste Impact Fund to drive their waste management efforts to divert plastics from the ocean.

We will be partnering with CSR leadership within corporations to have them reach out to their employees -with matching funds optional – to become annual memberships, and buy OCI SWAG and recycled products in our online marketplace -where majority of proceeds will go directly to the island in need — explicitly known, documented and transparent.
ISLAND-BASED OCI WASTE IMPACT FUNDS
Targeted islands are the recipient(s) of the funds generated through our Direct Social Action programs. Funds will be used to improve waste management efforts from providing. new complete solutions to event-based programs focused on recycling efforts and behavior change using sports, art and music.
WHY THIS IS A “DIRECT SOCIAL ACTION” PROGRAM
While everyone now understands the problem of plastic in our ocean, most people disengage as they feel their individual actions don’t make a difference. For every $5 spent to purchase one of our recycled plastic merchandise, the OCI Islands Impact Fund will receive $1. This $1 equates to approximately 10 pounds of plastic and waste (not one plastic bag at the supermarket) that does not wind up in the unsanitary dump (and then eventually into the ocean) or being openly burned. One action (the purchase of goods) turns into funds directly used to provide the waste equipment to the island OCI has partnered with.

How our Marketplace generates Impact
Ocean Currency provides direct social impact for individuals and employees whose contributions, in the form of a percentage of sales from purchasing recycled products in our marketplace, will pay for the waste management solutions on island nations most impacted by climate change, especially in the Pacific Ocean. Now, participants can make this meaningful contribution through our web site and see their money put to direct use.
